About the Role
The Indigenous Engagement Coordinator works alongside First Nations communities, building strong and respectful relationships with Elders, local organisations, businesses, and community members across Cape York.
This role is centred on listening, learning, and working together to support First Nations people in accessing and succeeding in further education. It focuses on creating pathways, strengthening connections, and ensuring students feel supported, confident, and culturally safe throughout their study journey.
A key part of the role is also providing tailored support for Indigenous students—helping to improve education outcomes, increase participation in further study, and make education more accessible and achievable for community members.
Meet Tiannie
Support for Indigenous Students
Tiannie is a proud Torres Strait Islander woman who walks between two worlds, bringing both lived experience and professional knowledge into her role.
Her own education journey has taken her through studies in Horticulture, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education, and Community Services. Through this, she understands firsthand the challenges that can come with studying—especially through external or online pathways.
With a strong passion for community and connection, Tiannie works closely with students across Cape York, supporting them with everything from enrolments and course navigation to ongoing encouragement and wellbeing.
She is especially passionate about helping others see what’s possible for themselves. Inspired by the support she once received, Tiannie now creates that same space for others—one that feels welcoming, understanding, and empowering.
Whether you need help getting started, staying on track, or just want to have a yarn, Tiannie is here to support you.
